One of my most precious experiences during this past year as I’ve traveled and shared music is to hear your stories about how songs have impacted your lives- either hearing them in person at shows or reading them online.

I wanted to continue that by sharing my heart about one of the current singles, “Take You Away.”  (You can hear the song by launching the music player, or request it at your local Christian radio station!!!)

I know that something that is so incredibly special about music is the fact that people can find meaning in their own heart for the words and music that they hear. Of course as a writer and performer, I also have a story or meaning in the songs I sing.

When I listen to “Take You Away,” it makes me think of another song lyric, “they will know us by our love.” I am so passionate and so proud of the social justice focus that we have within our Christian communities and Christian music. I’m also a strong believer that people will never hear a message of love that they don’t see already in action. Growing up I have witnessed over and over, people in my home church making sacrifices with their time and money to help others, to help provide basic necessities for survival and also to be there as a shoulder to cry on and to provide support.

Two of my favorite verses that speak to this are John 13:35 “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” and Romans 12:10 “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.”

What I want this song to speak to hearts is, that you can find a friend who will simply be there for you at the end of a bad day, who will extend grace to you when you’ve messed up and can’t seem to find a way to forgive yourself, that we as people of faith should be those friends. That we should encourage each other in every situation and never give up on each other, always showing love and hope and truth.

Have you had someone be there for you lately? I would love to hear your story!
